Kid tied up, left on terrace in heat for not doing homework: When parenting oversteps into abuse in the guise of discipline! | The Times of India
Very often the abuses to a child are done by someone known.
There are several laws in our country that safeguard the well being of children and protect them from the abuse of parents, teachers, mentors and other elders.
The various child protections laws in the country are: the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act 2015; the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012; Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act 1994; the Commission for Protection of Child Rights Act 2005; the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act, 2009; Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006; and Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Amendment Act, 2016.
Section 17 of the Right To Education Act, 2009, bars corporal punishment on kids. It prohibits physical punishment and mental harassment to children and prescribes disciplinary action against those found guilty.
“No child shall be subjected to physical punishment or mental harassment, Whoever contravenes the provisions of sub-section (1) shall be liable to disciplinary action under the service rules applicable to such person,” reads the act.
Article 21 of the Indian Constitution safeguards the right to life and dignity of every individual including the right to education of children up to the age of 14 years.
