Three students from Tamil Nadu and Kerala were apprehended for their alleged involvement in growing and selling cannabis using advanced farming techniques at a rented residence in Shivamogga, Karnataka, according to the police.

The Karnataka police identified the primary suspect as Vighnaraj, a 28-year-old medical college student from Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu, who was found growing cannabis at the rented accommodation, reported ANI.

“Police received information that the accused was involved in the business for the last three and half months,” Superintendent of Police GK Mithun Kumar said.

The other two individuals arrested were identified as Vinod Kumar, a 27-year-old resident of Idukki, Kerala, and Pandidorai, a 27-year-old resident of Dharmapuri, Tamil Nadu. The police apprehended them during a raid after receiving a tip-off while they were attempting to purchase the illegal substances.

During the raid, law enforcement officers discovered 227 grams of ganja, 1.53 kilograms of raw ganja, 10 grams of charas, ganja seeds in a small bottle, three cannabis oil syringes, two cans for processing ganja powder, and various other items related to cannabis consumption.

Additionally, the police seized an electronic weighing machine, one exhaust fan, six table fans, two stabilizers, three LED lights, rolling papers, two hookah pipes, four hookah caps, hemp stems, and 19,000 in cash. A case has been registered at the Shivamogga rural police station under the appropriate sections of the Indian Penal Code.

The police official provided further details, stating that Vighnaraj had been cultivating cannabis discreetly inside the residence using pots and creating an artificial environment (referred to as spider farming). The landlord was unaware of these activities. The cannabis was primarily sold to college students. The investigation is ongoing to determine if others are involved in this illegal operation.
