The the counting of votes for much-awaited Karnataka assembly elections 2023 is underway. It is a crucial election for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as they aim to retain control of the state against a robust challenge from the Congress in the first significant election of this year.
The exit polls forecast that the JD(S) party is likely to face a significant decline in its tally from the 37 seats it won in the previous election. However, the party may still hold the key to a hung assembly.
The exit polls conducted by various agencies have projected different seat forecasts. Three polls predicted a clear majority for the Congress, with the India-Today Axis poll being the most decisive, giving the Congress between 122 and 140 seats, and the BJP between 62-80 seats.
The Times Now ETG poll predicted 113 seats for the Congress, the minimum needed for a majority, and 85 seats for the BJP. The News24-Today’s Chanakya poll predicted 120 seats for Congress and 92 for the BJP. The Zee News-Matrize poll gave the Congress 103 to 118 seats, while the ABC-CVoter poll had a forecast of 100-112 seats for the party.
The Republic TV-P-Marq poll predicted a close contest between the BJP and the Congress, with the former winning 85-100 seats and the latter 94-108 seats.
The outcome of the Karnataka assembly elections 2023 will have a significant impact on the political landscape of the country and set the tone for the upcoming state elections. The BJP will be looking to maintain its dominance, while the Congress will be hoping to make a strong comeback.
