Karishma Tanna says she felt humiliated when producers rejected her for movie roles citing she was a TV actress | Hindi Movie News – Times of India

Karishma Tanna recently talked about how she fell into depression after she failed to get work for nearly a year post her small role in Rajkumar Hirani’s Sanju. In a new interview, Karishma opened up about feeling dejected and humiliated since filmmakers were not ready to cast her in films citing she was a TV actress.
Questioning the concept of a ‘fresh face’, Karishma revealed that she has heard things like, ‘You are too tall’ and ‘Your face is too exposed since you work on TV’ during her film auditions. She said that a lot of people love to go with the herd mentality like, ‘if she is a TV actor let’s not cast her, let’s cast a fresh face’. Karishma felt humiliated every time she was told that she can’t get the role because she is a TV actress.
Speaking about rejections, Karishma said that she fails to understand why people try to put actors into a category. Though she feels that things are changing, there is still a struggle for a TV actor to get work in films.

She then went on to list things that she heard from producers while being rejected for movie roles. She was told she was too tall, seen on TV every day, she was too glamorous for the role so they can’t take her. She added that when filmmakers don’t want to cast you, they can give many reasons.
On the work front, Karishma will now be seen in Hansal Mehta‘s upcoming film Scoop. It also stars Ishitta Arun, who is the daughter of veteran actress and singer Ila Arun.
