The 50-year-old landed in a soup yet again when he confessed that he did not want his friend Aditya Chopra to cast Anushka Sharma in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, opposite Shah Rukh Khan. During the 18th MAMI Mumbai Film Festival in 2016, Karan revealed that wanted to murder Anushka Sharma’s career. When Aditya showed him her pictures, he advised him not to cast her. The filmmaker also added that there was another lead actress at that time who he wanted Adi to sign and he was totally behind the scene sabotaging Anushka completely. Karan also admitted to watching ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi very reluctantly.

As this old video went viral, netizens slammed Karan for being a terrible person, who sees no one beyond nepo kids. Even though Karan confessed to apologising to Anushka after watching the movie, the audience was in no mood to forgive him. Amidst all the brouhaha, Karan recently shared a crytic note on his IG stories, which spoke about standing tall amidst allegations. He wrote, “Laga lo ilzaam, hum jhukne waalon mein se nahi.., jhoot ka ban jao ghulam…., hum bolne waalon mein se nahi…, jitna neecha dikhaoge…, jitne aarop lagaoge…, hum girne waalon mein se nahi…, humara karam humari Vijay hai…aap utha lo talvaar… Hum marne waalon mein se nahi.. (I am not the one to get bowed down and I will keep moving forward, no matter what).

Karan is all set to return to direction after a hiatus. His next, Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani with Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt will release in July this year.
