‘Kantara’ qualifies for Best Picture and Best Actor in the Oscars contention list – Times of India

2023 begins off on a huge note for Kannada cinema as Rishab Shetty’s ‘Kantara’ has made it to the Academy Awards qualification list in the Best Picture and Best Actor categories which means ‘Kantara’ is eligible for Oscar members to cast a vote to push it through to the main nominations. Last few weeks, SS Rajamouli’s ‘RRR’ made all the sound for being qualified in the Best Original Song category for ‘Naattu Naattu’ song. Though ‘Kantara’ was a late entry in the Oscars race. ‘RRR’ and ‘Kantara’ being in the nominations under various categories is surely going to be a new high for South cinema and surely the movie buffs of both industries are going to be in a celebration mood.

‘Kantara’ was submitted for the Oscars 2023 which has surely made all the Kannada people very proud. During the movie’s successful run in the theatres, netizens insisted the makers submit the film to Oscar and they trended with various hashtags trending to send the film to Oscar. Now sharing the happiness on their Twitter page, the makers wrote, “We are overjoyed to share that ‘Kantara’ has received 2 Oscar qualifications! A heartfelt thank you to all who have supported us. Written and directed by Rishab Shetty, ‘Kantara’ was released on September 30th only in Kannada. Seeing the unexpected response all over Karnataka and other parts of India, the makers were forced to dub the film in other languages in successive weeks and ‘Kantara’ went on to become a stupendous blockbuster in Hindi and Telugu languages with amazing unbelievable collections for its content and theme which became a universal connect to people across India.
