Kangana Ranaut’s ‘Thalaivii’ producers in disagreement with multiplexes – Times of India
The producers of the film are negotiating with multiplex chains to release the film on OTT two weeks after the theatrical release on September 10, a condition that the multiplexes are finding hard to accept.
But producer Vishnuvardhan Induri says, “This happens. We are still negotiating with them, but we have to also make sure that we recover our investment. The theatre owners should support us because we are taking the risk of releasing the film in theatres despite the fact that as producers we have got returns from non-theatrical platforms.”
Apparently, Induri had decided to premiere ‘Thalaivii’ on a popular OTT platform just two weeks after its theatrical release. The Tamil and Telugu versions are also to be premiered on another streaming platform, just 14 days after the release. The multiplex chains though are insisting that the window between a film’s theatrical release and OTT premiere be a minimum of four weeks. An arrangement that was reached with the producers of ‘Bell Bottom’ and ‘Chehre’, too.
When ETimes pointed out to Induri that there was speculation about him having agreed to push the release window to four weeks for the Tamil and Telugu versions, he says, “I am doing that so that we recover our investment.” The final decision around the window for the Hindi release though is still up in the air.
Induri is also claiming that he has offers from various OTT platforms and is presently talking to them.
