‘Kaithi 2’ will have to wait since Karthi is busy with other commitments – Exclusive – Times of India

South superstar Karthi is on a roll with his last 3 films ‘Viruman’, ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ and ‘Sardar’ doing extremely well at the box office. The actor who is currently gearing up for the release of the second installment of Ponniyin Selvan is also currently shooting for his 25th film ‘Japan’, which is being directed by Raju Murugan and features Anu Emmanuel opposite him.

One of Karthi’s much-loved movies is ‘Kaithi’, which released in 2019 and was a massive success. It was also recently remade in Hindi as ‘Bholaa’ with Ajay Devgn. ‘Kaithi’ is part of director Lokesh Kanagaraj’s cinematic universe (which fans popularly refer to as LCU). Last year’s release ‘Vikram’ (featuring Kamal Haasan) and ‘Leo’ (with Thalapathy Vijay), which is to be released this year, are also from the same universe.

In a report that came out last year, it was revealed that Karthi would soon start working on ‘Kaithi 2’ and take the LCU forward. But ETimes now has an important update. A source close to Karthi has revealed to us that the ‘Kaithi’ sequel will have to wait for now. Our source stated, “Karthi is tied up right now with three films. His shoots are starting with ‘Japan’ and all of the films have been committed to pre-pandemic. All these films featuring Karthi have come together at the same time. Only after the pending films are complete can Karthi think about doing the ‘Kaithi’ sequel.”

Following this update, fans of both Karthi and Lokesh will be anxious to see how the LCU moves forward once it’s next chapter ‘Leo’ has released.
