Kaia Gerber Talks Her New Zara Collab and Why She’s Inspired by the ’90s

The lineup includes strappy bra tops, chunky turtleneck sweaters, boxy suits, cropped denim jackets, and slinky slip dresses. “My style is quite classic—I’m really into a men’s suit and good tailoring—so I think it was about bringing that together and mixing in some more revealing pieces,” says Gerber. “I love the white shirt with the open back. I also love the silk pajama suit, because I’m always trying to figure out ways to wear pj’s everywhere.” Tops range from $30 to $120, trousers are $89, dresses from $89 to $169, and coats from $189 to $439.

Gerber adds that the more pared-back color palette of black, white, brown, and gray was an intentional choice. She wanted pieces that you could mix and match with total ease. “I love color, but in my wardrobe, it’s mostly grays and blacks and beiges,” Gerber says. “I wanted everything to go together. I don’t like to think too much when I’m getting ready in the morning.” For color lovers, however, she also wanted items that could easily be incorporated with such statement pieces. “You could pair them with a colorful bag or hat,” she says. “Your personality can bring the color!’

Given the collection borrows heavily from the ’90s, we couldn’t resist asking Gerber what she loves about the decade so much. “I love the minimalism, and the more masculine shapes with the suits,” she says. Some of her style icons from the era (besides the obvious choice, her supermodel mother, Cindy Crawford)? “Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy was the classiest and coolest, Winona Ryder, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Moss,” she says. “All those supermodels—I feel like that’s when off-duty [dressing] became a thing.”
