Kaia Gerber Shows the Supermodel-Approved Way to Wear a Babydoll Dress Now
“Dôen is heavily inspired by nostalgia, family, and the warm hues of Southern California days that start with foggy mountain hikes and end with our feet salty in the sand,” Margaret and Katherine Kleveland, the Santa Barbara-based sisters and founders of Dôen, told British Vogue last July. There’s no surprise, then, that sun-kissed Cali girl Kaia Gerber has earmarked one of the brand’s effortless minis as her dress of the summer. It looks like Doên’s babydoll Gladys minidress has convinced Kaia Gerber of the allure of a summer dress.
Maybe the brand’s positive ethos caught Gerber’s attention. Dôen started as a collective, formed to “support women-identifying people in the workforce in all aspects of the organization, supply chain, and community.” The team’s design mantra encompasses a similarly empowering approach to business: “We want to help you dress with as little effort as possible and hope to make you feel your most confident, graceful self throughout your day, whatever it may bring.”
Gerber styled the 100-percent, cotton-poplin Gladys dress with pristine white Vans sneakers, ankle socks, Foundrae’s heart charm necklace and her cherished sage Celine Ava shoulder bag. On Dôen’s website, the Gladys is described as an “embroidered delight,” that is “equally suitable for sunny days out and evenings inside.” No doubt Gerber agrees.
When she’s not rotating her stylish sweats and sportswear, Gerber is often flying the flag for It-girl brands. She’s already welcomed a range of Dôen’s ethereal blouses into her summer wardrobe, including the ruffled floral Henri and pinstripe Lydia styles. Peachy Den’s cult velvety Kernel jumpsuit and its zingy knitted Stella vest have received the Gerber seal of approval, as have dresses from Ciao Lucia and Réalisation Par.
