Klopp said: ‘It was a really good game. There was one situation which I didn’t like – that was when we conceded the goal because it was directly after a drinks break.

‘Apart from that, we were super dominant. We played a really good game. I liked how our midfield was connected, I liked our build-up.’

Liverpool were also able to use the friendly to give some minutes to some of the younger players in the squad and Klopp was impressed with how they performed.

Klopp continued: ‘When you bring on the kids [in the] second half and you see the pass from Bobby Clark and the whole performance from Stefan [Bajcetic], the performance from Mel [Frauendorf] as a right full-back and then Ben Doak comes on, 17 years old, and is this kind of natural force, it’s really cool to see.’

With fixtures beginning to pile up following the completion of the World Cup, these young players could have an impact in the second half of the season.

Liverpool face Manchester City in a return to competitive action and Klopp was able to shed some light on when key players will be returning to the side following the World Cup.

On who could make the squad for the Carabao Cup clash, the Liverpool boss said: ‘Hendo [Jordan Henderson] we will see, Trent [Alexander-Arnold] we will see.

‘We will make the decision obviously on Wednesday who can play on Thursday. But it’s good and will be a very interesting game after that period but I’m looking forward to it.’

Liverpool will be hoping to continue their progress and retain the Carabao Cup after beating Chelsea in a penalty shootout in last year’s final.
