Julian Nagelsmann races back from skiing holiday to be SACKED by Bayern Munich

BREAKING NEWS: Julian Nagelsmann races back from his skiing holiday to be SACKED by Bayern Munich at their training ground – after dropping his girlfriend home – and it could cost them £62m!

  • Julian Nagelsmann grabbed his advisors for the crunch talks with Bayern’s board
  • Overall, the Bundesliga giants could shell out a package worth £62m to axe him
  • The manager was on a skiing holiday with his girlfriend when he heard the news

Julian Nagelsmann cut short his skiing holiday in Austria and raced back to Bayern Munich’s training ground on Friday, bracing himself for the chop after news of his sacking hit the headlines last night.

The 35-year-old boss was pictured arriving at Saebener Strasse – the Bundesliga giants’ headquarters in south Germany – just after 3pm local time on Friday, ready to accept his fate after 20 months at the club.

Sportsmail reported this morning that Thomas Tuchel is set to take over at Bayern Munich on Monday, with the club sitting second in the Bundesliga just one point adrift of league leaders and rivals Borussia Dortmund.

Nagelsmann was on a skiing trip Austrian Zillertal, enjoying the international break with his 30-year-old girlfriend Lena Wurzenberger, when he learned of his imminent sacking.

Upon travelling home, the German manager swiftly took a detour to drop off his girlfriend before heading to Bayern Munich’s training ground.

He was pictured heading into an underground car park, where he picked up personal advisors Volker Struth and Sascha Breese ahead of the crunch talks with Bayern CEO Oliver Kahn and sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic.

With Bayern still in the title race and the Champions League, having comprehensively beaten PSG 3-0 on aggregate to advance to the quarter-finals this month, Nagelsmann’s departure came as a major shock.

During his time in charge of the German outfit, the young coach claimed one Bundesliga title and two DFL Supercup trophies.

According to German outlet BILD, Bayern Munich could be forced to pay an overall package worth 70million euros (£62m) after axing Nagelsmann, with figures estimating the head coach is earning approximately nine million euros (£8m) every year.

Unless a settlement is agreed, Bayern may be forced to pay the remaining three years of his contract, worth around 27million euros (£24m) in wages.

The £62m sum also includes compensatory fees paid out to Nagelsmann’s staff, who are set to leave the club following the German manager’s sacking.

His video analyst Benjamin Gluck and assistant coaches Dino Toppmoller and Xaver Zembrod will likely fetch a sizeable amount in severance pay.

Nagelsmann won 60 of his 84 games in charge of Bayern (71.4 per cent), having joined the club in July 2021, claiming one Bundesliga trophy and two German Super Cups during his tenure.

His perfect record in the Champions League this campaign – eight win from eight games – did not save him either.

Eager for a clean slate ahead of crucial fixtures against Dortmund, Freiburg and Manchester City, Bayern felt a change in management would better protect their chances of winning the treble.
