Julia Fox Reveals Her Red Carpet Makeup Routine—Including That Smoky Eye

It turns out that Julia Fox does all of her own stunts—and that includes red carpet makeup. The actress took to Instagram ahead of the Independent Spirit Awards to clue followers into her trademark makeup routine, dramatic smoky eye (which she calls the “fox eye”) and all.

Beginning with an allover serum barrier, Fox walked followers through a slightly abbreviated version of her routine, from finger-applied foundation (“because it’s really not that serious”) to targeted concealer—“It really is like painting. It’s art. Fuck anyone who says differently.”—to subtle contour, sheer blush, and powdered bronzer.

“Honestly I’m gonna look so bomb when this is done,” says Fox, proceeding to brush up her brows and overline her lips before arriving at the main event. The actress stresses the importance of following the shape of your own brow to achieve a successful fox eye, and begins with a brushing of black shadow pulled from the inner corner and all over the lid toward the outer edge of her brow. The application is ample, and Fox cleans up the shape before rimming it in black liner and starting in on the other eye. The actress finishes the now-signature move, reminiscent of Black Swan, with a coat of mascara, a hair tousle, and a smirk. “I love it,” she says. “I think it’s fierce. I don’t give a fuck what the haters say.”
