Washington Nationals outfielder Juan Soto hit his first home run of the season on Opening Day.
Opening Day of the 2022 MLB season had finally arrived on Thursday, Apr. 7. While two games were postponed due to weather, there were seven matchups available to watch on the schedule, including the Washington Nationals hosting the rival New York Mets.
Nationals fans were probably not happy with the majority of the game, since they had gone scoreless entering the bottom of the sixth inning and were trailing 4-0 to the Mets. However, that all changed as star outfielder Juan Soto hit his first home run of the season, sending the baseball thrown by Trevor May into orbit. That cut Washington’s deficit to 4-1.

With that, Soto hit the 99th homer of his career. Fans reacted to Soto launching that baseball into the second deck of Nationals Park.
As the Nationals Twitter account said, Soto is on pace for 162 home runs this season. The most home runs that Soto has hit in a single season was 34 back in 2019.
Soto is looking to have another great year like he did in 2021, where he finished second in NL MVP voting after leading the league in on-base percentage (.465), walks (145) and intentional walks (23) while recording 29 home runs and 95 RBI.
The solo homer was actually the only run scored by the Nationals, as they lost 5-1 to the Mets.
