Former Houston Astros outfielder Josh Reddick claims he and Jose Altuve did not use the team’s sign-stealing system, which helped lead them to the 2017 World Series.
Carlos Beltran spoke out about Houston’s sign-stealing system once again earlier this week, bringing a news story from 2017 back to life. Beltran claimed that had the players been told the sign-relaying system they were using was, in fact, illegal, they surely would have stopped.
“A lot of people always ask me why you didn’t stop it,” Beltrán said via The Athletic. “And my answer is, I didn’t stop it the same way no one stopped it. This is working for us. Why you gonna stop something that is working for you? So, if the organization would’ve said something to us, we would’ve stopped it for sure.”
Alright, then.
There’s no way to prove Beltran wrong, as the Astros front office never did relay that message from MLB. The players surely should have known there was something sketchy about their activity though, especially considering they rode it all the way to a World Series.
On social media, Astros outfield Josh Reddick reiterated that neither he nor Jose Altuve used the sign-stealing system to reach the 2017 fall classic.

That’s impossible to prove, and Dodgers fans can surely point out a number of incidents that were sketchy to say the least. Reddick himself hit .167 in the seven-game series. Altuve had a number of huge moments during the run to the 2017 World Series.
The Astros cheated to win the World Series. No related information can change that, nor does it matter that other teams were using sign-stealing systems as well. The Astros’ system was far more obvious than most, and went beyond legal means.
It’s a tough pill to swallow, but one Astros fans must get used to eventually.
