On the most romantic day of the year, Joseph Altuzarra and Gabriella Karefa-Johnson hosted an intimate post-show soirée with Vogue100. Following the brand’s fall 2023 debut at the New York Public Library, guests were welcomed to Angelina, an iconic French patisserie turned cocktail lounge for one night only.
A colorful crowd came out for the occasion. Naturally, many Vogue editors—including Lisa Aiken, Lilah Ramzi, Maddy Fass, and Elise Taylor—stopped by for a glass of Champagne and to congratulate the designer. With her signature electric blue hair, Margaret Zhang, editor-in-chief of Vogue China, made an appearance in a sophisticated trench coat and sunnies. Wrapped in a velvet smoking jacket, Zach Weiss, Manhattan’s resident man about town, looked characteristically dapper as he chatted with film producer Shivani Rawat and model Sophie Sumner. With U-Beauty’s Tina Craig on his arm, Blake Abbie, the newly minted star of Bling Empire: New York, sported Thom Browne, another blockbuster show of the week. Models, including Chloe Oh and Alyda Grace Carder, glittered as they strutted around the buzzy affair.
In a subtle nod to the holiday, bouquets of red roses filled the decadent space. Although in Midtown, Angelina’s baroque mirrors and swirling moldings transported attendees to a mystical, imagined city. Perhaps one reminiscent of Paris, Altuzarra’s hometown. The space, golden in candlelight, echoed the parade of exotically attired models who walked the runway. As Vogue Runway director Nicole Phelps pointed out in her rave review of the collection, the designer took inspiration from Madame Grès. Notions of mysticism, romance, and travel also enthused the looks.
The conversation flitted from previous shows to what awaited the glamorous, nomadic crowd: London, Milan, Paris, and beyond. Despite a ready-to-wear season that is, so far, decidedly down to earth, this fairytale evening allowed for whimsy and wonder.
