Jonjo Shelvey missed Nottingham Forest’s defeat to Liverpool after ‘being SENT HOME’ by Steve Cooper

Jonjo Shelvey was told to stay at home by Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper over his attitude, a new report has claimed.

Shelvey was left out of the matchday squad to face his former side Liverpool on Wednesday and the reason has seemingly been revealed.

The midfielder is claimed to have been angered at being named on the bench at Anfield after Cooper had deemed his training performances not good enough to warrant a starting place.

It’s said that the two were involved in a ‘heated’ conversation, with Shelvey eventually being left out the squad and sent home for the game, according to the Telegraph.

Shelvey is now back in training, but it’s unclear if he will play a part in his side’s game against Brighton on Wednesday.

The 31-year-old has made eight appearances for Forest since joining the club from Newcastle in the January transfer window.

Six of those have been as a starter in the Forest midfield, with two as a substitute.

Shelvey had been a unused substitute in the side’s previous game, a 2-0 defeat at home to Manchester United on April 16.

A player missing out for disciplinary reasons is the last thing Cooper needs with his side already dealing with an injury crisis in their fight to save their Premier League status.

The midfielder is back in training but it is unclear if he will be selected for Wednesday’s game

Forest lost the Liverpool game 3-2 on Saturday after twice pegging the Reds back, leaving them 19th in the Premier League table.

They have won just six times all season, and face a high-flying Brighton side next.

They also have to play Brentford, Southampton, Chelsea, Arsenal and Crystal Palace as they look to avoid relegation in their first season back in the top flight, though will be without Scott McKenna for the rest of the season.

Cooper confirmed on Monday that the defender has fractured his collar bone and he will miss the remaining games.
