Champion jockey Jamie Kah has been charged by racing stewards after photos that appeared to show her rack up a line of white powder surfaced on social media last month.
She and Ruby McIntyre have been each been hit with one charge by racing stewards, who allege they have breached the sport’s regulations with the controversial images.
In a statement, Racing Victoria said the pair are accused of breaking the rule that states ‘a person must not engage in conduct prejudicial to the image, interests, integrity, or welfare of racing, whether or not that conduct takes place within a racecourse or elsewhere’.
Kah (in the foreground) appeared in photos which appeared to show her racking up a line of a white substance
An image that seemingly shows Kah’s right hand dividing a mound of white powder was circulated on WhatsApp
The statement went on to allege that ‘between 17 and 18 June 2023, Ms Kah attended a gathering at her residential premises which was also attended by Ms McIntyre and one other person.
‘Ms McIntyre recorded Ms Kah using an identification card in her hand to arrange a while powder substance into three lines.’
Racing Victoria also alleges the recording was shared by McIntyre.
On June 22, Kah announced she was back in the saddle and preparing to make a return to racing three months on from a horror fall that resulted in a stint in hospital due to a brain bleed and memory loss.
However, just a day later the photos were found to have been circulating within the racing industry on WhatsApp, which appear to show Kah racking up a line of a white substance.
Kah was reportedly pictured with close friend and housemate Jacob Biddell, who is a greyhound trainer. He is seen pouting for the photo in a ribbed cream turtleneck jumper.
Another woman is pulling peace signs with her hands, with a grey plate placed on a marble kitchen table.
The champion jockey had just announced her return to the saddle after a horror race fall left her with a brain bleed when the images surfaced
The second photo, appears to show Kah’s hand – with the same manicured nails and grey jumper – using a plastic card to split a mound of white powder on the plate that was seen in the first image.
Greyhound Racing Victoria is also looking into Biddell’s appearance in the images, according to the Herald Sun.
Kah, a nine-time Group 1 winner, and fellow champion hoop Craig Williams were involved in a sickening race fall earlier this year that left her fighting for life.
She was rushed to hospital in a critical condition after suffering bleeding on the brain, a fractured wrist and broken foot following the fall during the Sires Produce Stakes at Flemington on March 11.
Kah was put in an induced coma for almost a week to allow her brain to rest, and after a significant stint in hospital returned to her farm in Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula.
