JJ Watt welcomes Tom Brady into retirement by inviting him to ‘newly-retired group’ on golf course

‘Drinks are on the new guy’: JJ Watt welcomes Tom Brady into retirement by inviting him to the ‘newly-retired group’ on the golf course and tells him to ‘bring his wallet’

Tom Brady no longer has to worry about getting tackled now that he’s retired, but he’s already received an invitation to hit the golf course with a former football foe.

JJ Watt was one of many well-wishers of Brady after he announced his retirement this week, and the future Hall of Fame defensive end already has a plan for how he and the legendary quarterback can spend their days off the gridiron.

‘Greatest of All Time,’ Watt tweeted Wednesday.

‘No question, no debate. It’s been an honor and a privilege. PS – The newly retired group meets on the golf course every morning at 10am. Drinks are on the new guy, so bring your wallet.’

Brady announced his retirement on Wednesday with a low-key video of him sitting on the beach.

‘Good morning guys. I’ll get to the point right away. I’m retiring, for good,’ he said in the video.

‘I know the process was a pretty big deal last time so when I woke up this morning I figured I’d just press record and let you guys know first

‘It won’t be long-winded. You only get one super emotional retirement essay and I used mine up last year, so… really, thank you guys so much to every single one of you for supporting me.

‘My family, my friends, my teammates, my competitors. I could go over forever, there’s too many. Thank you guys for allowing me to live my absolute dream. I wouldn’t change a thing. Love you all.’

Watt, meanwhile, announced on December 27 that he was stepping away from the game, three months after he went into atrial fibrillation, requiring his heart to be shocked back into rhythm.

He tearfully bid farewell to the sport as the Cardinals lost the 49ers 38-13.

A five-time Pro Bowler and first-team All-Pro, Watt is the only NFL player ever to record multiple 20-sack seasons, both of which came during his decade with the Houston Texans. He’s played the last two seasons with the Cardinals.

He’s already getting a head start on his retiree golf game, too.

He hit the course Saturday with pros Jon Rahm and Tom Kim, along with legendary swimmer Michael Phelps.

‘One of the best rounds I have seen him play, love seeing his progress. Ready for Match #2 but only giving him 34 shots,’ Rahm said.
