Jerry Lorenzo Will Present Fear Of God’s First-Ever Show at the Hollywood Bowl
Since launching Fear of God in 2013, Jerry Lorenzo has shaped one of the fastest growing fashion houses in the US by doing things differently. His first seven mainline collections, and the most recent, named Eternal, were released via lookbook and/or film according to his own calendar. He shuttered the highly sought-after F.O.G. diffusion brand to replace it in 2018 with Essentials, an even more highly-sought-after—and much more distinct—diffusion brand. Collaborations have seen the Fear of God aesthetic successfully go toe-to-toe with partners, including Zegna and Birkenstock, which have a far more established footprint. As Lorenzo told Vogue around that Birkenstock launch: “After you’ve got through 10 years you’ve earned the right to move at the rhythm of your own drum… the intention of the brand and where it can go is solely in our power. We’re really excited!”
So it’s probably par for the course that Lorenzo has planned Fear Of God’s first-ever fashion show entirely on his own terms. According to save-the-dates sent out this morning, that show will be in the brand’s home city, Los Angeles, on Wednesday, April 19. The venue will be the Hollywood Bowl which, one 25th anniversary Calvin Klein benefit event in 1993 apart, has never hosted a single-designer fashion show before.
No further details were forthcoming from FoG HQ today, but that timing looks—like all things related to this brand—intentional in the extreme: April 19 sits slap-bang in the middle of Coachella’s week 1 and 2 lineups. There have been a lot of fashion shows thrown in Los Angeles recently, but none of them have been from a house born and raised in that city. Expect this 10th anniversary fashion show debut to be one to remember.
