Jerry Jones feels ‘very good’ about Cowboys QB Dak Prescott playing vs. Vikings

Both Dallas Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones and Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy expressed optimism last week that quarterback Dak Prescott would be good to go for this Sunday’s game at the Minnesota Vikings after he strained his right calf in the Week 6 overtime win over the New England Patriots.

Prescott and company had some extra rest during the bye last week, and owner Jerry Jones told local radio station 105.3 The Fan on Tuesday his QB1 needed no protective boot at the team facility.

“Based on what you saw yesterday, that was very encouraging,” Jones explained, per Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk. “But those things have to be monitored. We have a solid week, which is great to monitor that. I thought [Zack] Martin had a good description of it when he had the calf tear last year. He said some days it feels great and then it feels like you got run over by a bulldozer the next day. But still, I feel very good about where Dak is right now.”

The Cowboys have won five straight following the season-opening loss at the defending champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Prescott has emerged as a Most Valuable Player candidate heading into Halloween weekend. According to ESPN stats, Prescott is fourth in the NFL among eligible quarterbacks with a 115.0 passer rating, sixth with 16 touchdown passes, and eighth with 1,813 passing yards. Only Kyler Murray of the Arizona Cardinals (73.5%) has a higher completion percentage than Prescott (73.1%).
