Jeetendra recollects escaping a fatal plane crash, courtesy his wife’s Karwa Chauth fast – Times of India

Time and again, Veteran actor Jeetendra has shared amazing stories and anecdotes be it during media interactions or reality shows. Having said that, the actor recently made an appearance for a comedy show where he shared an anecdote about being saved from the 1976 Indian Airlines flight crash where 96 people died.

Speaking about the same, the actor shared that the flight which was scheduled for 7 pm got delayed by two hours. That day also happened to be Karva Chauth, hence he thought of going back home and helping his wife in completing the ritual of the fast.

He recalled calling his wife Shobha and informing her that he’ll come back home for the moonrise so she could complete the Karwa Chauth ritual. Jeetendra had reached home but his wife was still waiting for the moonrise. On reaching home, Shobha wouldn’t let him leave again for the same.

Soon after, he went into his balcony and saw a ball of fire in the air heading towards the airport ground. The actor further added, his phone was ringing continuously, as everyone who knew about his travel wanted to check up on him. The flight, which was headed from Mumbai to Chennai, had taken off, but turned around towards the airport soon and the subsequent plane crash had 96 fatalities. One of Jeetendra’s co-stars Rani Chandra died in the tragic crash.
