JCO, soldier critically injured in counter-terror operation in Poonch

In a fresh incident of exchange of fire in Bhata-Durian village in Poonch-Rajouri range of Jammu division, two armymen, including a Junior Commissioned Officer, were critically injured on Thursday evening.

The exchange of fire took place three days after five armymen were killed in Dera Ki Gali, which falls in the same range. The operation in DKG has entered it’s fourth day on Thursday.

After the fresh encounter, the authorities have suspended traffic on Rajouri-Poonch highway, which connects the region with the Jammu district, and massive operation against the group of militants is going on. The army is yet to ascertain whether it is the same group of militants who were earlier in DKG area or a new group.

The armed forces came under attack during a search operation in Bhata-Durian area which is adjacent to the DKG forest ridge. According to army officials, the operation is under progress in the area.

On September 12, an unidentified militant was killed in the upper reaches of Manjakote in Rajouri district.

On August 19, a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) of the Army was killed in an encounter with terrorists in Thanamandi area of Rajouri district.

Two Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists were killed in an encounter with security forces in Thanamandi belt on August 6.
