‘Jaswant Singh Khalra’ biopic makers move to court against the decision of CBFC, as the board suggests 21 cuts to the film with an ‘A’ certificate | Hindi Movie News – Times of India

The biopic on Jaswant Singh Kalra featuring Diljit Dosanjh has found itself into controversies for a while now. The film was initially submitted to the CBFC board for certification in December 2022 and the process went quite slow. A source close to the film has said that, the board was silent on it for months. Hence, in May 2023, the production company RSVP Movies headed by Ronnie Screwvala, filed a suit to the Bombay High Court seeking orders against the CBFC to decide the certification application. The CBFC stated at the hearing that a decision regarding the film’s certification will be made by May 26, 2023.
The latest update on the ‘Jaswant Singh Khalra‘ biopic is that the film has received an ‘Adult Only’ certificate and the CBFC has asked the makers to make 20 cuts despite the A rating. The makers have now moved to court against this decision. The CBFC has given an ‘A’ certificate to the film as they found some portions fictionalised which they didn’t like.
Ronnie has now filed an appeal to the Bombay High Court under Section 5C of the Cinematograph Act, stating that the cuts violated Article 19 (1)(a) of the Indian Constitution and were not covered by the section 5B of the Cinematograph Act. This proceeding will be addressed in Court on July 14, 2023.
The Jaswant Singh Khalra biopic is directed by Honey Trehan and while Diljit plays the titular role, Arjun Rampal also has a pivotal part in it.
