Jasprit Bumrah to miss India’s ODI series against Sri Lanka
Bumrah has been out of action since September last year because of a stress reaction in his back and has been rehabilitating at the BCCI’s National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. His addition to the ODI squad came after he had amped up his training and bowling routines in the last week of 2022.
“The pacer has undergone rehabilitation and has been declared fit by the NCA,” the BCCI had said in a statement announcing Bumrah’s return. “He will be joining the Team India ODI squad soon.”
Bumrah, however, did not travel with the Indian team to Guwahati, the venue for the first ODI against Sri Lanka on Tuesday.
It remains to be seen whether India pick Bumrah for the ODI series against New Zealand which begins on January 18.
India play three ODIs against Sri Lanka on January 10, 12 and 15. Bumrah’s absence leaves the pace attack comprising Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh and Umran Malik, in addition to seam-bowling allrounder Hardik Pandya.
India’s squad for Sri Lanka ODIs: Rohit Sharma (capt), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (wk), Ishan Kishan (wk), Hardik Pandya (vice-capt), Washington Sundar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Umran Malik, Arshdeep Singh.
