Jasprit Bumrah ruled out of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup: BCCI | Cricket News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: The BCCI on Monday officially ruled out ace India pacer Jasprit Bumrah from the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia due to a back injury.
Bumrah was initially ruled out from the ongoing three-match T20I home series against South Africa after the injury flared up. The 28-year-old had also missed the Asia Cup due to the injury.

“The BCCI Medical team has ruled out Team India fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup squad. The decision was taken following a detailed assessment and in consultation with the specialists,” a BCCI statement read.
“The BCCI will be naming a replacement for Jasprit Bumrah in the squad for the marquee tournament soon,” the statement further added.

India begin their campaign on October 23 against arch-rivals Pakistan in Melbourne.
Bumrah’s absence is a huge blow to India who also lost all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja to a knee injury. This year, Bumrah has played only 5 games each in three formats apart from 14 games for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League.

Mohammed Siraj came in as a replacement for Bumrah in the South Africa series while seamers Mohammed Shami and Deepak Chahar were named as standby players when India announced its squad for the marquee tournament.
India, who won the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup in 2007, failed to advance to the knockout stages of last year’s tournament in UAE.
Bumrah has played 30 Tests, 72 ODIs and 60 T20Is for India since making his international debut in January 2016.
