Jarace Walker becomes favorite to go No. 5 in 2023 NBA Draft, ahead of Cam Whitmore and Ausar Thompson

More rumors are circulating around the NBA Draft and it’s impacting betting markets quite a bit.
There may not be a question who goes No. 1, but picks No. 2 through No. 5 are far from locked in and it can shape the rest of the NBA Draft. Tuesday morning, a new favorite surpassed Cam Whitmore to be the betting favorite to go fifth and that’s Houston forward Jarace Walker.
Walker leapfrogged Whitmore on Tuesday, now a slight favorite to go No. 5, currently held by the Detroit Pistons with Ausar Thompson also firmly in the mix.
Walker has been picking up steam as a Pistons target, highlighted by ESPN’s NBA Draft expert Jonathan Givony speaking highly of the Houston forward and linking him to Detroit in his most recent mock draft.
With the reports that Whitmore may be sliding to the back half of the top 10, that has opened the door for other prospects like Walker and Ausar Thompson to climb up the board and come into focus as early as No. 5.
Walker may be the best fit given that the Pistons have its backcourt of the future with Cade Cunningham and Jaden Ivey already in the roster, limiting some options for a more ball dominant prospect like Ausar (and Amen) Thompson.
It’s worth noting that Givony notes that the Pistons could be in the market to move back on draft night, but that hasn’t stopped the betting market from taking a liking to Walker going No. 5 come Thursday.
