Jamie Carragher insists Harry Kane will go down as Tottenham’s greatest EVER player after moving level with Jimmy Greaves’ scoring record for Spurs – while Gary Neville compares him to Alan Shearer as ‘the most reliable of finishers’

Jamie Carragher has insisted Harry Kane will go down as Tottenham’s greatest ever player.

The forward moved level with Jimmy Greaves at the top of Spurs’ all-time top goal scorers charts with his 266th strike for the club against Fulham, and seems set to go past the total sooner rather than later.

Carragher, speaking on Sky Sports, branded Kane as ‘one of the greats’ while praising his consistency over the years.

‘Year after year he delivers’, Carragher began. ‘We see him every year getting 25-30 goals a season.

‘When you think about the absolute greats, he is one of the greatest. He will go down as Tottenham’s greatest ever player.’

Gary Neville, also speaking on Sky, compared Kane to Alan Shearer, whose Premier League goal scoring record of 260 goals could be chased down by the forward before he retires.

‘He (Kane) is the most reliable of finishers’, Neville said. ‘Alan Shearer was an unbelievable finisher, and the thing for me was his mentality, and I think Kane has that same mentality.

‘That is the biggest compliment I can give.’

Carragher turned his attention to Tottenham’s performance against Fulham, as they ground out a 1-0 win over Fulham.

It was their first win in three Premier League games following back-to-back defeats to Arsenal and Manchester City, and it has no doubt brightened the mood around the club following a tough few weeks.

‘In terms of tonight we’ve all been there as players when its about the performance’, Carragher said. ‘You need to get the results an then you can build from there.

‘Tonight was just about getting the result. Craven Cottage is a tough place to come under Marco Silva.’

Neville added: ‘If you’d offered this position to Tottenham at the start of the season you’d say, “Yeah that’s about right”. I think they’ll get stronger as the season goes on. The football’s been a little bit flat at times and they just need that spark.’
