Jamie Carragher believes Liverpool are not reliable in their hunt for a top-four finish
‘You can’t TRUST Liverpool’: Jamie Carragher believes the Reds are not reliable in their hunt for a top-four finish despite hitting six past Leeds… as he predicts ‘two or three performances that leave you scratching your head’ will scupper their chances
- Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side ended a five-game winless run at Elland Road
- Mo Salah and Diogo Jota scored twice, while Darwin Nunez completed the rout
- But Jamie Carragher questioned Liverpool’s consistency after a torrid season
Jamie Carragher has said that he believes Liverpool can’t be trusted in their hunt for a top four finish despite a thumping 6-1 win at Leeds.
Jurgen Klopp’s side ended a five-game winless run in all competitions in emphatic fashion at Elland Road.
Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota both fired doubles after Cody Gakpo had given Liverpool the lead, while substitute Darwin Nunez completed the rout in the final minute.
But Carragher predicted the Reds will scupper their chances with ‘two or three performances that leave you scratching your head’.
‘If Liverpool play like that and have a consistent run of performances and get anywhere close to that tonight… t he fixtures are most games you feel they should win,’ the former Liverpool defender told Sky Sports.

‘But as we saw with the graphic tonight, that’s the first time they’ve beaten someone below them away from home in the league this season.
‘The problem is you can’t trust Liverpool and you haven’t been able to trust them since the first game of the season.
‘I still think between now and the end of the season we’ll still see two or three performances that leave you scratching your head.’
The Reds are eighth in the table, still nine points adrift of fourth-placed Newcastle with eight games to go.
Carragher, 45, who played over 700 games in defence for Liverpool, also labelled Leeds’ defending ’embarrassing’.
Leeds have now conceded the most goals in the league after letting in 16 in their last four games, and 11 in their last two.
Carragher did not hold back in his assessment of Javi Gracia’s side.
He said: ‘This Leeds team have had three different managers but remain the worst team defensively in the Premier League.
‘They’ve got really poor defenders and I’m not convinced by the goalkeeper – I know he’s young – but he’s got no presence. They look like they’ve got a kid in goal.’
Goalkeeper Illan Meslier has kept just five clean sheets this season and none since late February.
Carragher described Robin Koch as ’embarrassing’ after allowing Andy Robertson to slip past him in the build up to the Reds’ third goal.
It was a rare away win in what has been a torrid season for Liverpool.

They had won just three away games all season before travelling to Elland Road, and sit eighth in the table after challenging for the quadruple last year.
For Leeds, the loss leaves them just two points above the relegation zone with seven games remaining.
They still have relegation rivals Bournemouth, Leicester and West Ham to play, as well as tough games against Man City, Tottenham and Newcastle.
Leeds will next be in action against Fulham on Saturday, when Liverpool host Nottingham Forest.
