Jalen Brunson suffers sprained ankle during New York Knicks’ win over Sacramento Kings… leaving the team sweating over the status of their star man for Wednesday’s game

New York Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau has revealed star point guard Jalen Brunson suffered a sprained ankle during the 112-99 win over the Sacramento Kings.

Thibodeau told reporters the injury occurred early during the fourth quarter of play, and that Brunson did not return to the game after he was hurt.

The Knicks coach also stated that he was unsure if Brunson would be available for the game against the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday.

Brunson has been a major spark plug for the Knick’s this year and has been averaging career highs in almost every statistical category since his move from Dallas to New York in free agency.

The 26-year-old point guard has been averaging 20.2 points and 6.4 assists per game, while revitalizing a Knicks offense that spent that past two seasons living or dying with Julius Randle often dribbling out the shot clock on every possession.

Before leaving Sunday night’s game Brunson had recorded 18 points, three assists, and three rebounds in 27 minutes of play.

Following Sunday’s victory, the Knicks have won four games in a row, with a large part of the reason being seen as Thibodeau’s decision to shorten the rotation – benching Cam Reddish, Evan Fournier, and Derrick Rose.

The injury to Brunson, combined with the fractured leg suffered by Obi Toppin recently may however allow these players to regain minutes and increase their potential trade value as the season moves on.

New York currently 14-13 and in a three-way tie for 6th in the NBA Eastern Conference with the Atlanta Hawks and Indiana Pacers.
