Jake Paul v Tyron Woodley 2 ‘FLOPPED with just 65,000 PPV buys’ in huge blow for YouTuber as UFC star Jorge Masvidal mocks ‘fake’ rival

  • Jake Paul v Tyron Woodley 2 flopped with just 65k PPV buys, reports suggest
  • Paul, 24, knocked out former UFC star Woodley in emphatic fashion this month
  • However, the eight-round contest failed to deliver a large number of PPV buys
  • Paul previously claimed that one million punters tuned in for his Ben Askren win
  • Jorge Masvidal has mocked the boxing novice, labelling his arch rival a ‘fake’

Jorge Masvidal has aimed a dig at ‘fake’ Jake Paul after it emerged that the YouTube star’s knockout win over Tyron Woodley garnered just 65,000 pay-per-view buys.

Paul, 24, called out UFC stars Masvidal and Nate Diaz following his win over Woodley, in which he floored the ex-welterweight champion with a devastating right hand in the sixth round.

The YouTube star offered Masvidal $5million (£3.73m) to step into the ring with him, insisting that his box office figures means he can offer UFC stars a career-high payday.

However, DAZN reporter Steven Muehlhausen claims that Paul v Woodley II achieved under 65,000 pay-per-view buys with Showtime, before online streams are taken into account.

He tweeted: ‘Sources: Have learned that Jake Paul vs. Tyron Woodley 2 ‘bombed’ on cable/satelitte [sic] PPV.

‘Numbers are below November’s #AEW Full Gear which did under 65,000 buys on terrestrial TV. Streaming numbers are unknown.’

If those figures are accurate, it presents a huge blow to Paul, who had claimed that his fight against Ben Askren this year sold over one million PPVs, and that he earnt more than Tyson Fury this year.

And Masvidal has taken the opportunity to mock his rival’s poor viewing numbers, labelling the undefeated novice a ‘fake’.

Paul’s rival Jorge Masvidal mocked the 24-year-old, labelling the YouTube star a ‘fake’

‘B**** boy can’t afford the big boys,’ he said. ‘Never again do I want to hear my name associated with the fake. 3 0 5 day is coming #supernecessary’.

A fight with Masvidal appears complicated to arrange, with the former welterweight title challenger still contracted with the UFC.

UFC president Dana White has slammed the door shut on the possibility of Masvidal or Diaz being given permission to take on Paul in a one-off event.

He said: ‘No (scenario I’d let Diaz or Masvidal box Paul while under UFC contract). You notice how he wants to fight f***ing everybody that’s not in his weight class, guys that are older and all this bull****. Go fight a boxer. Go hump somebody else’s leg, you goofball.’
