Jain University, Bengaluru maintained the top position in the Khelo India University Games on the third day too. Their dominance in the swimming competition helped them keep the top spot in the medal tally. They won four of the ten gold medals in swimming. Eight records were broken in the pool today. Shubham Dhaygude of Savitribai Phule University, Pune set a new KIUG record in the Men’s 1500 freestyle swimming event.

In the 50 m men breaststroke event Danush Suresh of Anna University set a new KIUG record breaking the previous record held by Ansh Arora. Similarly Aryan Panchal of Gujarat University broke the previous record in 200 m butterfly and Siva Sridhar of Jain University in the 200 m backstroke event. The second spot in the medal tally has gone to the University of Mumbai and the third spot to Savitribai Phule University, Pune. Savitribai Phule University asserted their dominance in weightlifting events today. Vaishnav Thakur clinched Gold in the 96 kgs category and Chirag Waghavale won the Gold in the 102 kg class for their University.

Both of them set the new KIUG records in their categories. The medal tally today reflects 57 Universities, with 24 of them winning at least one Gold medal. University of Mumbai completed a sweep in Mallakhamb, winning the women’s team events. There will be as many as sixteen medals up for grabs tomorrow. Nine among them will be in the swimming event. The archery competitions will begin tomorrow and the finals in the badminton men’s and women’s team competitions will also be held.
