Jacquemus Heads to Hawaii for Its Spring 2022 Show

While Fashion Week is continuing in Paris, one of France’s most buzzed-about designers is heading to the Pacific to present his latest collection. On March 9, Simon Porte Jacquemus will debut his spring 2022 collection, Le Splash, in Oahu in the early afternoon.

“For our first show staged outside of France, I wanted to explore unexpected locations. Hawaii stood out for its dreamy and inspiring landscapes with incredible mountains, beaches, and sea,” Jacquemus told Vogue over email. “It reflects completely the mood of the collection ‘Le Splash’ that we are presenting. Also, I was convinced when Tom Kneller shot our campaign last year there. This show is a dream come true for my team and me and I hope it will be a beautiful summer escape for everyone watching the show.”

The destination show will be the first far-flung catwalk since the pandemic started in 2020—even brands like Chanel, Louis Vuitton, and Dolce & Gabbana have kept things mostly local inside France and Italy. Gucci cast its eye farthest, taking over Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles for its spring 2022 runway. Jacquemus’s jaunt will surely rack up the most airline miles, though the brand will not be flying any guests or models from outside the Pacific region and the United States. Instead, locally cast models and guests from Asia, Australia, the United States, and other Pacific Islands will be welcomed to Hawaii to see the new collection on the beachfront. (The brand also promises minimal set design to lessen the impact on the environment.)

How will the Jacquemus show play out against both Paris Fashion Week and the ongoing war in Ukraine, which labels like Balenciaga and Isabel Marant have acknowledged on the runway? There will not be a livestream to tell; instead the brand will reveal looks on its Instagram and on Vogue Runway on March 10.
