‘It kills me’: Chumpy Pullin’s pregnant partner reveals baby anguish
The pregnant widow of Aussie snowboard champion Alex “Chumpy” Pullin has revealed the daily pain she has endured since the tragedy.
The pregnant partner of Australian snowboard world champion Alex “Chumpy” Pullin has detailed the pain she has endured since her partner’s tragic death as she prepares to become a mother.
Pullin drowned in July 2020 aged 32 while spearfishing at Palm Beach on the Gold Coast, believed to have been the result of a shallow water blackout.
Amid the unimaginable grief, Ellidy Vlug revealed earlier this year — less than 12 months after his death — she was pregnant with the Winter Olympian’s child through a miracle procedure.

Ellidy explained her pregnancy had been the result of her and Pullin trying to conceive through IVF treatment the same month Pullin died.
In August, she told Vogue Australia the conception was the result of a snap sperm retrieval operation in the hours following his death.
Speaking on her Darling, Shine! podcast, Ellidy said seeing other young fathers with their children is a constant, painful reminder Pullin will tragically miss out on fatherhood.
“My grief is for Chump, he’s missing out on being a dad. I see dads with their babies knowing how good he would have been,” she told the podcast.
“Every day I go to the beach and I see guys walking along the beach with their chicks and the guy is carrying the baby in the carrier on his chest and the girl’s got the dog.
“When I see a dad with a baby it f***ing kills me, and I am so happy for that person, it’s not a pity party here.’’
Ellidy admitted having a child with her late husband would be a “bittersweet” moment.
“I’m having a baby which is going to be the most beautiful thing ever and bittersweet in that it’s almost going to create more trauma here and there,” she said.
“It’s really hard to swallow the fact that he’s missing this, he deserves this time, he wanted this, he would have been the best dad.”
Earlier this month, the Instagram influencer shared an update on her pregnancy with her 100,000 followers, thanking close friends for all their support during what’s been a tumultuous period for the 28-year-old.
“My friends literally deserve a medal for the way they have shown up for me the past year,” Ellidy wrote.
“Instead of feeling awkward and withdrawing in unfathomable circumstances, they stepped the f**k up in this wild year of ‘firsts’ without my Chumpy, and that cannot be easy!
“Taking this s**t on head first with me, running towards the pain and suffering, using it as fuel to cherish and look after each other, appreciate every moment, live and be kind.”
Ellidy’s baby is due later this month.
