There are chances that things could shift in closely-contested elections as no party has a full majority but Netanyahu is poised for a comeback
Israel’s Prime Minister Yair Lapid said it was too early to make conclusions about the outcome of Tuesday’s election following promising exit polls for his rival, ex-premier Benjamin Netanyahu.
Projections from three Israeli networks showed Netanyahu’s right-wing Likud party and its allies could be on track to form a majority in the 120-seat parliament, but with razor-thin margins, things could shift as the ballots are counted.
If the first forecasts hold, that would be the end of the short reign of an alliance of eight parties that managed to oust Netanyahu last year before collapsing itself.
Lapid, a centrist, told supporters at a rally in Tel Aviv early Wednesday that such forecasts were premature, saying the full picture remained unclear.
“Nothing is decided,” he said. “We will wait patiently… for the final results.”
