Is this the sign that Jarome Luai is set to leave the Penrith Panthers? Comes after huge $100,000 blow for the under-fire star following State of Origin axing
- Bad things come in threes and Luai’s luck has run out
- Canterbury and Wests Tigers loom as hopes to save him
- Boombox deal goes belly up
Sacked State Of Origin star Jarome Luai may well be looking for a new club soon after yet another personal setback has rocked his hopes of staying with his beloved Penrith Panthers.
Bad things tend to come in threes and for Luai that is looking rather accurate after one of his major sponsors pulled the pin.
Following news he split with his management, SFX, recently comes the loss of his lucrative sponsorship with JBL electronic goods – worth $100,000 over two years according to the Sydney Morning Herald.
It was a deal that seemed to be a perfect match for Luai given his love of music and the boom box he likes to parade around with.
The company allegedly is frustrated with Luai’s lack of communication with them, and, once he left SFX, they withdrew their two-year deal worth $100,000.
Jarome Luai loves his music and the relationship with JBL Electronics originally was perfect – but the $100k partnership is now off
Luai has just lost his sponsorship with JBL and with that could be losing his position with the premiers
He was also axed from the Blues squad for the final game of the State of Origin series
It appears the controversial star will now manage himself, but he has been strongly linked to management company Black Money, the company that looks after latrell Mitchell and Cody Walker.
But that’s not where the drama in Luai’s life ends.
Following his sacking from the State side, and now his loss of JBL sponsorship, he may have to find a new place to dwell as part of his payment to stay with Penrith was tied up in that sponsorship deal.
Luai, the father of three young ones, would command upwards of nearly $1million a season on the open market and some clubs, like the Wests Tigers but more likely the Canterbury Bulldogs can afford that.
Luai is a young father of three and he will be searching for the best contract to support his growing family
Three Panther mates Brian To’o along with Nathan Clear and Luai may be torn apart following breakdown of Luai’s deal with JBL
Penrith may not be able to fit that amount under their bulging salary cap.
Luai has a tremendous association with Bulldog’s coach Cameron Ciraldo and the club is desperate for a world class half, so that may be a perfect fit going forward.
The Dogs are not permitted to talk deals with him until the November 1 deadline is passed, but if he inked a contract with them he would link with not only Ciraldo, but friend and former teammate Matt Burton.
The rules governed by the NRL state no player can resign with another management group after splitting until three months have past.
So there is ample time for Luai to get all his ducks in a row.
