Is the Bodysuit Megan thee Stallion’s New Uniform?

Megan thee Stallion has spent much of 2022 showcasing the versatility of bodysuits (many of which are designed by Mugler’s Casey Cadwallader). Continuing on her mission, the Houston rapper turned to the trending garment, once again, in the fashion-forward music video for her latest single, “Her.”

Megan faces off against carbon copies of herself in the black-and-white clip, primarily while wearing an abstract-print bodysuit and donning shocking blonde hair. Oh, and she vogues. The ballroom-tinged clip masterfully builds on the sleek and sexy look Megan has embraced for her latest album, Traumazine. The album campaign has been impressively front-loaded with an imitable array of high-fashion looks, including futuristic two pieces, funeral couture gowns, and sliced-and-diced bodysuits. This new creative chapter seems to be all about Megan stepping into her high-fashion era with confidence and boldness.

This embrace of fashion was perfectly teed up earlier this summer, with the first visual from Traumazine, “Plan B.” Directed by creative director Casey Cadwallader, the clip was a Mugler fever dream, with lots and lots of transparent fabric, cut-outs, and mermaid-esque wet hair.

Iconic hip hop director Colin Tiley, another beloved Megan collaborator, shot “Her.” And, once again, the bodysuit is the star of the show. At this point, it’s almost becoming Megan’s go-to uniform. Which would be a smart move. A history of pop stars adopting uniforms is long and rich: Beyoncé and leotards; Nicki Minaj and pink hair; Harry Styles and jumpsuits. In “Her,” Megan turns the bodysuit into a piece of glamorous athletic wear — bopping and duck-walking in body-hugging versions with impressive ease.

Hopefully, Megan continues her bodysuit masterclass. We’ll be taking notes.
