Irina Shayk Embraced Vintage for Her Supermodel Coachella Wardrobe
Weekend one of Coachella kicked off in Indio, California this weekend—and the annual music festival certainly didn’t disappoint, both in terms of street style and the performers on stage. (It helped that there were plenty of A-listers in the crowds, too, including Kendall Jenner, Hailey Bieber, and Lil Nas X.) Supermodel Irina Shayk was also in town, marking her second time attending the event. “It’s always such an amazing festival, with the best energy and vibes,” says Shayk. “And there’s such a great mix of performers—my favorite part!” (Her favorite act of the weekend? “Definitely Rosalía,” says Shayk. “I loved her Motomami album that came out last year.”)
While Coachella is all about taking in the music, it’s undeniable that the affair has also become an opportunity to be seen in one’s best statement ensembles. Shayk certainly views Coachella as a fashion spectacle, and the model says the festival is always an opportune time to think outside of the box and experiment with her style. “Coachella, for me, is a perfect opportunity to have some extra fun with your looks, and try looks that may be a bit out of your comfort zone and that you wouldn’t get the chance to wear at other events,” says Shayk.
This weekend, Shayk described her festival style as “chic, relaxed, and comfortable”—with a big emphasis on pulling out vintage pieces from her own archive. “I love mixing some of my favorite designer pieces and really amazing vintage pieces, to create super unique looks,” Shayk says. “Coachella is a great opportunity to recycle some looks you’ve had in your closet for a while—and mix and match them in a new and fun way.”
Some of her personal highlights from this weekend? She paired a black leather Burberry bikini with Vivienne Westwood shoes and Rick Owens sunglasses; a colorful Versace bra top with a vintage paisley Etro skirt; or a vintage khaki Yves Saint Laurent jumpsuit with wild leopard print Versace boots. Shayk says she collects such archival pieces from stores around the world. “I love popping into vintage shops, whether that’s in New York or when I am traveling, because you really get the chance to find really unique pieces,” says Shayk.
Better than playing dress up this weekend, however, was the one-of-a-kind experience that Shayk had while doing it. “It was just so much fun to spend time with friends and jump around from stage to stage, to listen to all the different artists, and get lost in the music,” says Shayk. “The atmosphere of Coachella is real magic—and like no other!” Below, see all of Shayk’s vintage ensembles from the weekend.
