The 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has witnessed intense competition, with the playoff contenders being decided only in the final moments of the league stage.
Mumbai Indians’ entry into the playoffs was confirmed when Shubman Gill’s century outshone Virat Kohli’s ton on the same day, securing GT’s 10th victory. GT finished at the top of the league table with 20 points from 14 matches. They will now face Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the first Qualifier on Tuesday, May 23.
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Mumbai Indians will clash in the Eliminator on Wednesday, May 24. The losing team will be eliminated, while the winner will face the loser of the first Qualifier in the second Qualifier on Friday, May 26.
The victorious team from the second Qualifier will proceed to the final on Sunday, May 28, facing the winner of the first Qualifier.
The first two matches of the playoffs will take place at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. CSK will enjoy home advantage in the first Qualifier against Hardik Pandya’s team. The final two matches will be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Therefore, if GT loses to CSK in the first Qualifier, they will have the advantage of playing at home in the second Qualifier. Additionally, if GT manages to reach the final, they will once again have the privilege of playing at their home ground.
