Celebrated sports commentator and quizmaster Charu Sharma came to BCCI’s rescue and pulled off a spectacular job after taking over as the auctioneer on Day 1 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 auction on Saturday in Bengaluru.

Charu Sharma, who has been a commentator for multiple sports in the past, replaced auctioneer Hugh Edmeades, who collapsed midway during the first session of the mega auction.

IPL 2022 Mega Auction: Full list of players bought

It was a frenetic opening day of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction as 74 players, including 20 overseas stars, were sold with the 10 franchises spending Rs 388.10 crore between them. Delhi Capitals bought the number of players, taking their overall tally to 13, whereas Mumbai Indians were the least active, managing to buy only 4 players. The cricket fraternity was left impressed with Charu Sharma’s excellent presentation skills as the Indian Auctioneer steered the mega auction wonderfully in the post-lunch session after the unforeseen crisis.

RCB’s content and digital head, Ajith Ramamurthy, shared the ‘IPLMegaAuction Story’ on his official Twitter handle.

“#IPLMegaAuction story: When the unfortunate incident with Hugh happened, the first priority for bcci was to ensure he gets the treatment he deserves. Once that was sorted, they had to find a replacement and act immediately. (1/3)

“@DanishSait offered to take up the responsibilities, but him being with RCB might have been a small problem. Bcci then contacted Charu Sharma, and within half an hour, he came to the ITC Gardenia, all suited up. He was briefed for an hour and Charu was ready! (2/3)

He did a terrific job and the moment of the day was when the bcci thanked him, and Charu spoke about Hugh and wished him well. Great stuff! (3/3)”
