IPL 2023: Wriddhiman Saha wreaks havoc against LSG, scores fastest fifty of season for GT
Gujarat Titans’ Wriddhiman Saha was in excellent touch on Sunday, May 7 afternoon, after wreaking havoc at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL) against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Saha scored the fastest fifty of the season by a GT player and along with Shubman Gill gave a great start to the league leaders in their own backyard.
Saha runs riot in Ahmedabad
After out into bat first, GT openers Saha and Shubman Gill looked in great touch with the former taking over the initiative of attack. Saha scored runs left, right and centre as he dismantled the likes of Mohsin Khan and Avesh Khan. Thanks to the exploits of Saha, GT brought fifty on the board in just the fourth over in what was one of the most productive Powerplay displays of the season.
It needed Gujarat 8.1 overs to bring their hundred as they were scoring at a rate of more than 12 runs per over. Things only got better for Saha as he continued his excellent touch, but was scalped for by Mohsin on the first ball of the 13th over. He was dismissed for a well-made 81 which saw him score 10 fours and 4 huge sixes and out a 142-run stand for the opening wicket.
Gujarat are looking to become just the third team to defend their IPL crown and will look to join Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings in doing so. They currently sit top of the pile with 14 points while a win on Sunday will see them edge closer to the playoff berth.
The current standings see GT top of the pile with 14 points while CSK sit second with 13 points to their name along with LSG who will have the opportunity to leapfrog the four-time champions. The likes of Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings have all accumulated 10 points so far this season.
