IPL 2023 SRH vs KKR: Rana, Rinku lead Knights beat Sunrisers by 5 runs
Kolkata Knight Riders on Thursday defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by 5 runs . Playing their 10th match in the current Indian Premier League against Sunrisers Hyderabad on 4 April, Kolkata Knight Riders gave the opponents 172 runs target to chase.
After winning the toss, the KKR chose to bat at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
Opening for KKR, the batters couldn’t keep handle the SRH bowling attack and walked to the pavilion in in the initial overs.
Jason Roy (19), Rahmanullah Gurbaz (0), and Venkatesh Iyer (7) were dismissed by SRH’s Kartik Tyagi and Marco Jansen in the powerplay only.
Following this, Nitish Rana (42) and Rinku Singh (46) set a partnership and gave KKR a good scoreboard on which it can challenge the home team. However, after their dismissal, no other player scored much and KKR managed to put 171 runs by losing 9 wickets in 20 overs.
For SRH, Marco Jansen and T Natarajan took two wickets each, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Kartik Tyagi, Aiden Markram and Mayank Markande took one wicket each.
Chasing a target of 172 may not look difficult in Hyderabad, but the Sunrisers openers failed to impress this time too and couldn’t give a good start.
Mayank Agarwal (18), Abhishek Sharma (9) and Rahul Tripathi (20) walked to the pavilion in the powerplay only. In the 7th over, power hitter Harry Brook was shown the way to the pavilion by KKR’s AS Roy.
However, skipper Aiden Markram (41) and Heinrich Klaasen (36) built a much needed partnership. But they too were picked by Vaibhav Arora and Shardul Thakur in the 17th and 14th over.
Later, wickets kept on falling. Any by the end of 20 over, Sunrisers could score only 166 runs and lost by 5 runs.
For KKR, Vaibhav Arora and Shardul Thakur took two wickets each, while Harshit Rana, Andre Russell, Anukul Roy and Varun Chakravarthy picked one wicket each.
