IPL 2023 MI vs SRH: Green, Sharma keep Indians hope alive for play-offs
With just one seat left for the play-offs in the Indian Premier League, five-time champions Mumbai Indians on 21 May kept their hopes alive for qualification as they defeated the Sunrisers Hyderabad by 8 wickets in Wankhede Stadium.
Chasing a target of 201 runs, Mumbai Indians’ batters played some marvelous shots to remember, with Cameron Green and skipper Rohit Sharma leading from the front.
Despite winning the match, the road for qualification is still far as there is huge difference in the net runrate of MI in comparison to Royal Challengers Bangalore, who is playing its last match with defending champions Gujarat Titans.
Meanwhile, Gujarat Titans, Chennai Super Kings and Lucknow Super Giants have already qualified for the play-offs.
SRH Innings:
After MI skipper Rohit Sharma chose to field first at his homeground, the SRH openers arrived on the pitch making a point that they still have some mettle left, despite out of the play-off.
Openers Vivrant Sharma (69) and Mayank Agarwal (83) played explosive innings and set a partnership for one last time in this season.
Sharma was dismissed by Akash Madhwal in the 14th over, while Agarwal’s wicket was picked up by him in the 17th over. He picked another two wickets of Heinrich Klaasen and Harry Brook in the 19th over.
By the end of 20 overs, SRH put a good score of 200 runs after losing 5 wickets.
For MI, Akash Madhwal picked 4 wickets, while Chris Jordan took one.
MI Innings:
Aiming to qualify for the play-offs, Mumbai Indians openers were firm to win the match by a good margin.
Opener Ishan Kishan and skipper Rohit Sharma tried maintaining a good run rate from the beginning, but Kishan’s (14) wicket was picked by Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the third over.
Following this, Cameron Green came to bat and played like he was meant to be. He not only set a partnership with Sharma, but hit a cenutry and remained unbeaten till last.
Sharma (56) was dismissed Mayank Dagar in the 14th over and after this Suryakumar Yadav entered the field to finish the match. He remained unbeaten and scored 25 runs is 16 balls. Mumbai Indians won the match in just 18 over by 8 wickets.
For SRH, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mayank Dagar took one wicket each.
