Playing the 12th match of the 16th Indian Premier League against Rajasthan Royals at Eden Gardens, the Kolkata Knight Riders scored 149 runs after losing 8 wickets in 20 overs.
Both the teams faced each other in 27 encounters, where has won 14 games while Rajasthan has won 12.
Earlier, Rajasthan Royal won the toss and opted to bowl first against the home team.
KKR innings:
Batting first, the KKR openers — Jason Roy (10) and Rahmanullah Gurbaz (18)– couldn’t do much and were dismissed by Trent Boult in the second and fifth over.
Following this, KKR’s Venkatesh Iyer took the responsibility on his shoulders to score in the match and tried setting up a partnership with skipper Nitish Rana (22), who was dismissed by Yuzvendra Chahal in the 11th over.
After this, KKR sent power hitter Andre Russell (10), whom KM Asif sent back in the 14th over. In the 18th over, set batter Venkatesh Iyer (57) too was sent back by Chahal. With this, wickets started falling like pack of cards and KKR batters Rinku Singh (16), Shardul Thakur (1) and Sunil Narine (6) couldn’t keep up. By the end of 20 overs, KKR managed to give a target of 150 runs for Royals to chase.
For RR, Yuzvendra Chahal took 4 wickets, Trent Boult picked one, while KM Asif and Sandeep Sharma clinched one wicket each.
After the innings, Yuzvendra Chahal has surpassed Dwayne Bravo to become the highest wicket-taker in the IPL. In Thursday’s match, Chahal claimed figures of 4 for 25 in his four overs, taking his tally up to 187 wickets. He has become highest wicket-taker in the IPL surpassing Dwayne Bravo.
