IPL 2023: Faf Du Plessis explains why RCB didn’t qualify this season
Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Faf Du Plessis has explained why his team didn’t qualify for the playoffs this season. Royal Challenger’s Bangalore was ruled out from the playoffs race after losing out to Gujarat Titans on Sunday.
Speaking at the post-match presentation on Sunday, the RCB skipper said, “From a batting perspective, the top 4 contributed really well. We missed a few runs from the middle order consistently throughout the season, especially in the back end of the innings, and also in the middle overs perhaps didn’t get as many wickets as we would have liked.”
“We need to improve well on finishing games, especially in the back end. Last year DK (Dinesh Karthik) had a purple patch and was finishing games left, right and centre, but this season it was not to be. And if you see the teams that succeed they have some good hitters at five at six probably six and seven,” Faf Du Plessis added
RCB’s top order has performed exceedingly well this season with Faf Du Plessis and Virat Kohli leading the show. Du Plessis currently holds the coveted Orange Cap for the most number of runs. He has scored 730 runs in 14 matches at an average of 56.15 and a strike rate of 153.18.
Not only has Virat Kohli topped the record for the most number of centuries in IPL, but the star Indian batter also managed to score more than 600 runs for the first time since 2016. Batting at the top of the order, Kohli scored 639 runs at an average of 53.29 and a strike of 139.82
Dinesh Karthik did not manage to have an impact in this year’s IPL, scoring just 140 runs while managing to go past an unwanted record. The former Indian wicketkeeper now holds the record for the most number of ducks in the IPL, Karthik has gotten out without troubling the scorers 17 times in his career followed by Rohit Sharma’s 16 ducks.
