IPL 2023: Chennai to host Qualifier 1 and Eliminator, Qualifier 2 and final in Ahmedabad
The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad will stage the Indian Premier League (IPL) final on Sunday, May 28 after the dates for the playoffs were revealed on Friday by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Alongside Ahmedabad, Chennai’s M. A. Chidambaram Stadium will host the Eliminator and the Qualifier -1 before the action heads to Gujarat. Ahmedabad will also host Qualifier 2 with a month to go before the start of the playoffs. This will be the second time in back-to-back years, Ahmedabad will stage the final with all teams still in the mix for the playoffs.
In a statement released by the BCCI, the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad will once again be the host of the IPL final (May 28) and will also stage Qualifier 2 (May 26). The iconic venue was also the host of the opening match of the IPL 2023 when hosts Gujarat Titans beat Chennai Super Kings in a thrilling contest.
Last Gujarat Titans beat Rajasthan Royals in the final of the IPL as they were crowned the champions for the first time in asking.
Chennai’s M. A. Chidambaram Stadium will also be on the playoff calendars as it will stage Qualifier 1 on May 23 while the Eliminator clash will also take place at the venue on May 24. Last year, Kolkata’s Eden Gardens hosted the Qualifier 1 and Eliminator clash with Mumbai and Pune hosting the league phase of the IPL.
Currently, all teams are in the mix for a place in the playoffs with 2008 champions Rajasthan Royals sitting top of the league with eight points. They are joined by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on eight points while other teams are in good positions in the league standings to make their journey to Chennai.
While Delhi Capitals are having a struggling season, they too are now on the board after beating Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by four wickets on Thursday.
Defending Champions Gujarat Titans will look to become the third team to defend the IPL crown but have a stern competition to face in the form of Rajasthan Royals and others.
