IPL 2022: Will Glenn Maxwell return for RCB against Rajasthan Royals? Mike Hesson provides update
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will be looking to continue their winning run when they take on Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 on Tuesday. RCB lost their opening game against Punjab Kings by 5 wickets failing to defend a total of 205 runs before bouncing back to winning ways with a three-wicket victory against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in their next encounter.
RCB have been without the services of star Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell for their first two matches of the season and are all set to be without him in their upcoming clash against Rajasthan Royals on Tuesday. Maxwell has already joined the rest of the RCB squad in Mumbai after completing his mandatory quarantine but will not play for his side yet.
RCB’s Director of Cricket Mike Hesson recently confirmed Maxwell will be available for selection only after April 06 (Wednesday). As per Cricket Australia’s clause, the Australian players can’t start playing for their respective teams before Wednesday irrespective of when they have joined the squad. Maxwell will thus miss the clash against Rajasthan Royals on Tuesday despite having completed his quarantine already.
“It’s pretty clear from Cricket Australia’s point of view that no contracted players are available before the 6th of April. So, regardless of when they arrive here, they can’t play before the 6th of April. We have been well aware of that as every other side. We have planned for that. Maxi will be with us and available from the 9th,” Hesson said in a video shared by RCB.

Maxwell recently got hitched to his long-time girlfriend Vini Raman in Australia. The cricketer tied the knot with her in a private ceremony before heading to Chennai for a traditional Indian wedding. In his absence, RCB have lost one and won one of their first two matches so far this season.
Maxwell’s return is expected to hand a huge boost to RCB, who are currently playing Wanindu Hasaranga, David Willey, Sherfane Rutherford and Du Plessis as their four overseas players. Maxwell is likely to replace Rutherford in the line-up once he is available for selection.
