Rajasthan Royals star Sanju Samson and Director of Cricket, Kumar Sangakkara, are confident that the former champions will be able to do well at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 auction, scheduled for February 12 and 13 in Bengaluru.

Sanju Samson said the mega auction will be extremely important for Rajasthan Royals, saying the team is looking to build a core group for the next 4-5 years.

The Royals have retained three players – Samson, big-hitting England wicketkeeper batter Jos Buttler and young India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal. The Royals will head to the auction with Rs 58 crore in their kitty.

“This auction is really important because we know we could very well be preparing our base for the next 5-6 years,” Samson said.

“So, we’ve made sure to track everyone and give the opportunity to as many players as possible during the trials.

“Our goal is to now target the ones we think align with our vision, can embrace our values, and help our team get back to the top,” Samson added.

SANGAKKARA CONFIDENTT OF COMPREHENSIVE PROCESS

Meanwhile, Sangakkara shed light on the homework done by the Royals for the mega auction, says their detailed analytical assessments will come in handy on Saturday and Sunday.

“Our analytical assessments are detailed, right from the information we’ve collected on players to get them integrated into a central database. We further filter the data, backed with a robust analytic process that enables us to arrive at the right metrics further refining our overall player identification process. It’s really quite a comprehensive process,” he added.
