IPL 2021: MS Dhoni was on course of getting BAN like Sanju Samson – Details here

After facing a 33-run defeat on Saturday (September 25) in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 clash against Delhi Capitals (DC), Rajasthan Royals (RR) skipper Sanju Samson had to face another loss.

The captain was fined Rs 24 lakhs for a slow over-rate during the match as his side failed to finish the 20 overs in the required time limit. Earlier this week, Samson had been penalised Rs 12 lakh for the same offence.

If his team repeats the offence for the third time, he will be fined Rs 30 lakh and would also be handed a one-match suspension.

While Samson will have to keep his team in check, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni, who will be playing their third match of Phase 2 against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), also faced a similar issue.

In the first phase of IPL 2021, the CSK ‘Thala’ was treading on the same line and was fined Rs 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate.

However, Dhoni had made sure his side finished the 20-over quota in the required time limit in the following encounters making sure to not get penalised twice for the same offence.

As for the official rules on minimum over rate requirements, it states: “The third and each subsequent offence in a Season as Captain of the bowling team, the Captain will be fined Rs. 30 lakh and banned from playing in the Team’s next League Match.”
