IPL 2021: ‘I want us to be at out best in …’ says Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting
Delhi Capitals head coach and former legendary captain of Australia Ricky Ponting said that his team will need to start afresh in the second phase of the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) as the tournament resumes in the UAE from this Sunday, September 19.
“It doesn’t matter that we’ve done in the first phase of the season. It’s been four months seen when we played some really good cricket, So we really have to start again,” Ponting said.
Ponting speaking ahead of the Capitals’ first game on resumption against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Wednesday, September 22 said that they still haven’t played their best cricket yet and with the inclusion of Shreyas Iyer into the side, the side has become even stronger.
“It’s great to have Shreyas back. He has got an infectious attitude infectious attitude. I have been talking to him a lot and his training has been great. He’s so keen to get back into the field, score runs and win. He’s a world-class player and he’s going to add a lot to our team, there’s no doubt about that.
“Where we were at the start of the tournament was due to, one, how well we played but two how hard we worked. I don’t think we have played our best cricket either, to be honest. So that’s what I want to tell the boys now. We’ve got to where we got to, without being at our best, but this next six games, I want us to be at our best at the end of those six games,” Ponting further added.
Delhi Capitals sit currently at the top of the table with six wins in eight games and would be looking to continue their stupendous form from the first half into the second half and later on to the playoffs and eventually a mdiaen IPL title.
The 14th edition of the IPL was suspended midway in May due to the rise in COVID-19 cases in bio-bubble and will resume with Chennai Super Kings taking on Mumbai Indians in the first game after resumption.
